SolarEdge CSS-OD 197: New C&I Battery Scales to 1 MW / 4 MWh

SolarEdge has unveiled the CSS-OD 197, a 197 kWh commercial and industrial battery cabinet based on LFP chemistry that can scale up to 1 MW / 4 MWh. The system is already being deployed across key European markets including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland, and France.

What does it mean at home?

If the topic touches solar panels, storage, inverters or home EV charging, the right answer depends on consumption, roof area, orientation and future expansion together.

SolarEdge is expanding its commercial and industrial (C&I) energy storage portfolio with the launch of the CSS-OD 197 — a pre-assembled battery cabinet delivering 197.12 kWh gross capacity and 187.15 kWh usable, built on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. LFP cells are favored in large-scale applications for their thermal stability, long cycle life, and enhanced safety profile.

The system is designed for modularity and scalability. Each cabinet houses 11 battery modules and supports a maximum charge/discharge rate of 0.5C. Paired with a 50 kW or 100 kW battery inverter, multiple units can be combined to reach either 1 MW / 2 MWh or 1 MW / 4 MWh — the latter requiring up to 20 inverters. Jacques van der Bijl, SolarEdge's Director of C&I Products for Europe, confirmed the company has already received customer inquiries at the full 1 MW / 4 MWh scale.

SolarEdge initially entered this product category in 2024 with the smaller CSS-OD 102 (102 kWh), targeting Italy's subsidy-driven market. The new CSS-OD 197 signals a broader European push, with active installations already underway in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland, and France — markets where C&I solar-plus-storage demand is growing rapidly amid high electricity prices and tightening grid regulations.

For businesses operating large rooftop solar arrays or ground-mounted PV installations, behind-the-meter storage solutions like the CSS-OD 197 offer a compelling way to maximize self-consumption, reduce peak demand charges, and build resilience against grid disruptions — all increasingly important considerations across the EU energy landscape in 2026.
